Tomorrow my little princess will be 28 months old. Hard to believe she is almost halfway through her second year. It never ceases to amaze me how much she has grown since she was born- from such a little helpless infant into an independent young lady.

Just a little bit of bribery is involved in mini photo shoots with Madalyn (can you sense the sarcasm here?) Now that she knows that you can see a picture on the viewfinder she is more interested in the camera then letting me take her photo. But if I come up with something to distract her (like a fantastic pink lollipop!) she will pose for about 15 minutes. So here are our fifteen minutes of Family Friday photos.

The pettiskirt is a perfect prop for photos of girls of all ages. They make them for as small as newborn up to adults. If your little girl would like to schedule a Petticoat Session please let me know. Sessions must be booked at least 3 weeks in advance to ensure that I have the correct size pettiskirt on hand.

For those of you who follow JLS Photography on Facebook and Twitter you might remember me mentioning the BIG opportunity that was happening for the business. I recently met with Angela from A’vie Wedding and Event Planning to become one of her recommended vendors. Angela, and the rest of the A’vie staff that I was lucky enough to meet, was absolutely amazing and we hit it off immediately. Hiring a wedding planner is one luxury that I think all brides should splurge on as it helps every aspect of your wedding day stay organized and stress free.

One of my late summer brides, Jessica, is actually working for A’vie, so Angela asked her to write a little blurb on their blog about JLS Photography. I am incredibly touched by Jessica’s kind words, and it is just another reason why I love my clients so much!

Check out the post here.

I honestly cannot tell you how many times people have said to me “I wish I could get married again so I could have photos taken by you.” To an artist that is truly an amazing compliment, and one that means so much to me to hear from family and friends. So that got me thinking…. who says that you have to have a wedding to have a romantic photography session.

JLS Photography is pleased to introduce the Romance Session. This engagement/ wedding style session features you and your special someone at your most intimate moments. These sessions will take place on location in some of the locations that you have seen featured on this blog, or in a place that is special to you. Romance sessions can be used for couples – either married, engaged, or just deeply committed to each other- who want to have photographs that show beautiful your love is. Romance sessions are also perfect for couples who have small weddings or civil ceremonies who choose not to hire a photographer for their event but would like to have portraits.

Romance sessions can also replace the Trash the Dress informal sessions that take place after a wedding as a more informal portrait session of the bride and groom.

And for the details:
Romance Sessions take place on location and last up to two hours
Standard session fee applies ($100 plus applicable sales tax)
After the session you will have access to your online gallery for a la carte or print package ordering.

A coffee table book would make a perfect way to display the images from your Romance Session. JLS Photography also offers a full menu of custom design options and print products including canvas gallery wraps and gallery mounted storyboards.

The romance session is the perfect gift to give to the couple who is hard to shop for! Gift cards are available as well.

So I can’t take credit for the Family Friday idea- a photographer friend of mine does it on her blog (Thanks Jen!) and I thought that it might bring some more action over here. Also, now you get to know a little more about me and my family since I love getting to know you and all of your families. Thanks to all of my wonderful clients and the success of my small business, I have been able to upgrade most of my camera equipment (which is LOTS of fun for me, but also means much better quality prints and products for you!) My most recent upgrade is a new camera- a Canon 5D, which is absolutely amazing in so many ways and takes some really rockin photos. I am really excited to be able to use this camera on shoots with all of you! I have also upgraded several lenses, as well as added some new products to the ordering system, including a DVD slideshow option, which I will show a sample of soon on this blog. But enough about the business…. a little about us….

My little girl is going to turn two this Spring. Amazing, isnt it? I never thought that time would fly by this fast…. but it does! I just celebrated my 29th birthday, and while I still feel very young, there are days where I can definitely see how grown up I have become. Especially when I look at how big my little one is getting, and how she isnt technically a baby anymore (well, let’s be honest… she will always be my baby!) It amazes me how many words she can say, and how she is able to put her thoughts into words- even sentences!- now. She knows what she likes and what she doesn’t, and she isn not afraid to speak her opinion.

We are defintiely beginning to struggle with the terrible twos- but mostly because I have to remember to be the adult and not give in to her every time. But even as frustrated as I sometimes get, I cannot help but be completely in awe of her spirit and her tenacity, and I hope that those are qualities that she never, ever loses.

And in honor of my new camera, here are a few pictures we took in the backyard the other day with it. I hope you enjoyed the very first edition of Family Fridays…. and keep checking back. This blog will soon be hopping with activity as I enter the busy Spring wedding season ( between now and May I have several engagement sessions and 4 more weddings, as well as some portrait sessions, so there will be LOTS to look at!)

And don’t forget- you can subscribe to new posts, and if you would like to be added to the JLS Photography mailing list, just click on the CONTACT button at the top of this page to send me an email.

This is just one of the many new products that I am offering this Spring. Storyboards include your favorite photos from your session placed into a custom design. The sky is the limit in terms of design options/colors/ photos, etc. A regular storyboard comes mounted on 2 mm styrene board and is hung with a color coordinated ribbon.

Here is the contest that I alluded to a few days ago. It is a different sort of contest, but one that I hope will make someone very happy this holiday season. Please take the time to read this, and think of someone that you know in this area who could use a gift of custom photography this year.
The other day I was in the mall, purchasing a book for my own darling daughter. When I was checking out at Waldenbooks, I was asked if I would like to donate a book for a child with cancer. I was all caught up in the hustle and bustle of the rush of the season, and started to say “no” but the words caught in my mouth. Before I knew it, I had said yes and was writing “Love, Madalyn Swanson” on the inside of a WALL-E Golden Book. And it felt good, thinking of a young child who might get to open up the book on Christmas day and have a smile on their face. I wanted to do so much more this holiday season, to make that warm feeling continue on. So here it is:

I have partnered with photographers all accross the country for a campaign called “Giving Is Awesome.” The goal of this project is to give the gift of custom photography to someone who may not otherwise be able to afford it. You can learn more about this at www.givingisawesome.com.

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $250 worth, to be exact. Whether it’s a CD of images, prints for Grandma, or a custom designed storyboard, it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season. The winner of this contest will receive a free photo session, as well as a $150 credit to spend as they wish.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a free photo session. That’s a $100 value! What better reason to show some love could there possibly be

The rules:

*You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

*The nominee must reside in the area of Gainesville, FL. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story to jaime@jlsphotographystudio.com

The winner will be announced on New Years Day — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

Love,

Jaime Swanson
